HOSTAGE RESCUE
A scenario by Paulo Picolomini
posted to the Warzone forum on 11-15-1999THE SITUATION:
Heretic terrorists disguised as waiters have taken over an embassy dinner and taken all of the guests hostage. They say that they will begin killing one hostage every 15 minutes if their demands aren't met within 24 hours. As commander of your corporation's most elite counter-terrorist organization you don't give a damn what their demands are. As far as you're concerned the only deal that could ever be worked out with a terrorist is the great deal of damage that your team's bullets will do to his cranium. But still, some caution is advised. You know that as soon as they spot your counter-terrorist team they will realize that negotiations have come to an end and they will not hesitate to kill every last hostage. Well, we'll see about that. It is time for a Hostage Rescue!MISSION OBJECTIVES:
Heretic Terrorists:
Kill more than half of the total number of hostages and Corporate Soldiers.
Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team:
Prevent the Heretic Terrorists from achieving their goal by escorting hostages to the safe zone outside of the embassy without losing too many of your own men.SET UP:
Ideally the playing area should be a two-story mazelike building with multiple doors leading in to the embassy. The embassy building should not be more than 24" x 24". It should have a second story that is the same size with at least 2 stairways leading up to the second floor. Both floors could be represented on separate tables using Siege of the Citadel tiles, Space Hulk tiles, or whatever other game would give you many small rooms to hide in. The Terrorists may deploy anywhere they want by secretly writing down what room they are in. As soon as any Terrorist uses any action he is revealed for the rest of the game. The Terrorist player can deploy the 16 hostages in various rooms or all together with their location known to the Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team. The Hostages may not be moved from where they are deployed except by a Corporate player that has come into base to base contact with the Hostage.
The Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team deploys in base to base contact with the outside walls of the embassy building. While the squads must maintain unit coherency the different squads may start next to different entryways.
THE FORCES:
Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team:
You are sending your best Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team. As such you get to choose four 4-man squads. The troop types are at your discretion but since you don't need to pay for them you may choose the best 16 non-individuals your corporation has to offer. Additionally you get to use one Personality from your force list. You may choose to play a Brotherhood force instead.
Heretic Terrorists:
The Terrorists, on the other hand, are chosen not so much for their combat effectiveness but more for their willingness to give their lives for the cause. Or at least whatever cause their leaders found important enough to sacrifice the lives of the poor misguided sheep they have under their control. Your Terrorists will consist of any Corporate (even the same Corporation as the Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team), Dark Eden Tribe, or Dark Legion force. But even though you don't have to pay for them they must consist exclusively of the most inexpensive basic troop type in your primary force list. Additionally you must get any one Individual from your force list that isn't greater than size 3. You do not need to pay for him. The total number of Terrorists including the individual is 33.SPECIAL RULES:
* Any soldier equipped with Grenades is also equipped with a supply of non-lethal Flash Bang Grenades. When one of these explodes anyone caught under the template rolls under their Leadership minus 5 the next time they are activated or lose all of their actions for that turn.* All members of the Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team are equipped with Heartbeat Sensors. By using one action any room where even the smallest part of it is within 6" of the Heartbeat Sensor equipped model has all the Terrorists hidden in that room are revealed for the rest of the game.
* The Terrorists can only kill a hostage if a member of the Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team either steps into a room with that hostage, fires into a room with that hostage, or throws a grenade into a room with that hostage.
* A Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team member can escort a hostage by coming into base to base contact with him. From then on the hostage follows directly behind him in base to base contact until he is outside. At which point the hostage has been rescued and the Corporate Counter-Terrorist Team Member can re-enter the building if he wishes. While escorting they count as being in base to base contact for targeting purposes.
